VIRFF is Vancouver’s newest cultural event organised by a passionate group from the Irish community to celebrate the best in Irish cinema.

Vancouver has a vibrant Irish diaspora and a thriving creative film industry so we wanted to create a platform to showcase Irish loved films.

Michael Inside tells the story of Michael McCrea, an impressionable 18-year-old living with his grandfather Francis in a Dublin housing estate, who gets caught holding a bag of drugs for his friend’s older brother and is sentenced to three months in prison.

The Drummer & The Keeper tells the story of an unlikely friendship between Gabriel, a rock’n’roll party animal newly-diagnosed with mental health issues, and Christopher, a 17-year-old goalkeeper with Asperger Syndrome who yearns to fit in.

This uplifting and comedic feature début from writer/director Nick Kelly deservedly won the Best Irish First Feature Award at last year’s Galway Film Fleadh.

A heartwarming story, showing the strength of the human bond, in the face of adversity.
